Canyoning in le vallon de l'Imberguet

This canyon is one of the Vesubie’s tributaries and it is best to do it in the early season. It usually gets dry in the middle of the summer and therefore is not always passable. The course takes place in narrow gorge where you can jump from up to seven meters (which is why you need to be able to jump from at least 2 meters without hesitation. The higher jumps can be avoided abseiling). A few slides and airy abseils alternate with aquatic walks and long swims in narrow chasms. This outing is limited to people in good physical condition and confident in water. This canyon is playful and technical without being extreme, it can be a good exercise before trying longer and harder ones.

From the meeting place, we’ll take a shuttle for six kilometers that will bring us to a parking lot upstream where a ten minute approach march awaits us.

The canyon starts with a few basins, jumps and slides. As it gets steeper, the course varies between waterfalls, narrow pits and high pools. We’ll abseil down the highest waterfalls (up to 25 meters). The last chasm, extremely steep and narrow, leads to a series of waterfalls and eventually, to the Vesuvius banks. After crossing over the river on a suspended walkway, we’ll only have five more minutes of walking to get to the parking lot.

The Vesubie gorges are located between the region of Cote d’Azur and the region of Alpes-Maritimes; beautiful places where you can enjoy other outdoor activities like the Lantosque Via Ferrata.

Situation

Le vallon de l’Imberguet is located in the valley of Vésubie, 30 kilometers from Nice. Since Castellane it takes 1h30 drive but this course is a very good alternative to the canyons of the Verdon for spring time. Shorter in distance than other day canyons, it is the great abseiling that takes time and attention. It is a perfect sequence between playful obstacles and technical obstacles.

Vertical character

With two hundred meters of height difference for nine hundred meters long, it is a course with a strong vertical character. With many abseil over 20 meters, we spend part of the day on the ropes. The rest of the time is shared between natural jumps and slides. Access to a few cascades requires a good organization of the team to move safely.

Aquatique character

Canyon with a low flow of water, Imberguet is usually dry in the heart of  summer. So it must be enjoyed between May and June. Despite the narrow parts, the freshness of the water is not very present and we moves comfortably. The swimming parts are limited to the exit of the basins.

Engagement et envergure

We evolve here in superb limestone break, very narrow that we  cannot see our way. The end of the trip is always a surprise because we arrive directly in Vésubie valley, much larger and  full of wild waters. If you like abseiling, aerial walks and beautiful landscapes do not hesitate, the Imberguet is a perfect opportunity to discover the canyoning.
